Trauma is a leading cause of death in Ethiopia, with neurotrauma—especially traumatic brain injury (TBI)—as the most frequent and fatal form. Despite new training centers, neurosurgical capacity remains far below the WFNS standard of one neurosurgeon per 200,000 people. General surgeons and residents therefore play a critical role in emergency neurotrauma care. Structured training to equip them with essential knowledge and life-saving skills can bridge care gaps, reduce preventable deaths, and strengthen trauma services nationwide.
